Show Notes

Spread your tiny wings and listen to Canada's songbird, Anne Murray, as she looks back at her incredible 40-year career. The Nova Scotia native is profiled in "Anne Murray: Full Circle," a new documentary streaming on CBC and CBC Gem. Murray, 76, spins story after story, including the time John Lennon came backstage at The Grammys to tell her he thought her version of "You Won't See Me" was the best Beatles cover he ever heard. Murray looks back at her start on Singalong Jubilee, moving to Toronto in 1971 in her 1969, aquamarine Cougar convertible and breaking into the US market as a semi-regular on The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour. She talks about becoming a crossover country favourite while singing at the Grand Ole Opry and sharing dressing rooms with Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn and a whole lot of hairspray. We also talk about her long-rumoured interest in owning a piece of the Toronto Maple Leafs and hitting a hole-in-one on the links in New York State. And, yes, she once recorded an episode of Family Guy, where she's adored by both Stewie and Brian.
